Momentum & Sustainment: Supporting the Warfighter
The next troop rotation for forces deploying and redeploying from Southwest Asia is building momentum and commenced during
July 2004. The main effort will occur through November to January. During the past year, inventory levels maintained by
our Warfighter's has improved every month since August 2003. DLA vendors and the supplier base have provided this momentum
by accelerating production, overcoming obstacles, and making tough decisions to ensure our deployed Sailors, Soldiers,
Marines, and Airmen have the logistics pipeline to support both personnel and weapon system needs. Associates at DSCC,
both military and civilian to include high-ranking service leadership, are filled with pride on the support you have
provided since Combat Operations began.
Spanning the past 2 years we continue to fill the pipeline with supplies necessary to support combat operations in an
austere environment. Our forces continue the fight to defend America and our allies from terrorist aggression and to
protect fledgling democracies abroad.
Navy ships, Air Force transports, and commercial lift will work around the clock to relocate troops and equipment
throughout the globe. This current rotation will involve a similar sized force in comparison to the last transition. The
size of OPERATIONS IRAQI FREEDOM (OIF-3) and ENDURING FREEDOM (OEF-VI) forces will be approximately seventeen (17) US
Brigades and 135,000 Soldiers and Marines. Army National Guard (ARNG) deployed personnel will increase from 33,000 to
37,000 and a higher number of High Mobility Multi-Wheeled Vehicles (HMMWVs) will deploy to the Area of Operations (AOR).
Our Combat and Combat Service Support equipment will continue to be stressed to support our deployed force. Our challenge
is to continue to provide high quality parts on time, in sufficient quantities, and to deliver them to the right place.
The entire Army continues to be in motion and will bring in an excess of 20,000 wheeled and 3,000 tracked vehicles back to
a high state of readiness. Maintenance operations continue at unit home stations, and at Industrial and Depot locations
both within the United States and overseas. Forecasting for future force needs is our critical task requiring focus to
adjust, readjust, and predict tomorrow's requirements.
Continuing Production and Support
DLA Vendors and Strategic Partners continue to experience high demands and rally to provide products and material. High
priority demands continue to flow to the warfighter and vendors have expedited deliveries and contracts.
Our past victories on foreign battlefields were a direct result of the spirit of America's fighting forces and the American
industrial support base. We must continue to maintain the momentum to target and fulfill the needs of our warfighters
abroad. Together we will ensure they are optimally prepared to succeed and win in combat based on what you have done, are
doing, and have yet to do. We encourage and invite further partnering opportunities and stress for you to share your ideas
and concerns about supporting this continued and historic logistics effort. You can do this by using the
