Multicultural Day and Family Fun Fest
This is an annual event sponsored by the Defense Federal Community. The purpose is to "Commemorate, Educate, and Celebrate" the diversity of our associates. As signed by the Commander in 2004, "The Defense Federal Community has the opportunity to offer a day for families to learn about different cultures and share time to relax and have fun together."
The event began in 2000 and the HEP committee strives to create the most dynamic booth that will allow us to share, educate, and raise awareness of our Hispanic/Latino heritage each year.
National Hispanic Heritage Month (15 September - 15 October)
In 1968, President Lyndon B. Johnson proclaimed a week in September as National Hispanic Heritage Week. The week was chosen to commemorate the anniversary of the independence of five Central American countries (Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras and Nicaragua) and Mexico's Independence Day. In 1988, the week was expanded to a month long celebration to include El Dia de la Raza on October 12. During this month, we honor the culture, traditions, heritage and contributions of Hispanic Americans. Each year a theme is selected to reflect our heritage and promotional materials are prepared to share a piece of history with DSCC associates.
